Critical Courses
Your critical courses are the specific core courses required for the Masters in Counseling program plus the courses required for your concentration — not including other electives. You are required to have 60 credit hours to earn your masters degree in counseling.

Mental Health Counseling Concentration Courses
Each course is 3 credits for a total of 12 credit hours for your concentration in Mental Health Counseling.

Clinical Field Experience
A hallmark of our counseling programs is the work students are required to have in real-world settings in order to gain the practical experience needed to be an effective counselor. Those courses are:
- COUN 539 Practicum (3 credits)
- COUN 540 Internship (6-9 credits)
Electives
You are required to have 9 credit hours of approved electives within the counseling masters degree program, which can help you narrow your specialization or explore other areas in your field. All approved electives are 3 credit hours each. Choose your electives from the following:
